Quick Overview Ophthalmic Diagnosis and Treatment, Third Edition, provides in a simplified format, recommendations and treatments of conditions most often encountered by eye care providers. Entities are in alphabetical order for easy, rapid access of information for the eye care provider and student.
Each entity has Diagnosis (definition, symptoms, differential diagnosis, etc.) on the left page and Treatment (diet and lifestyle, treatment aims, prognosis, pertinent references, etc.) on the right page. New illustrations have been added and this book has updated material. The same format is used throughout the book. The information, not intended to be encyclopedic, highlights the salient facts of each entity.
Full-color illustrations are used throughout the book. As much as possible, each entity is followed by its diagnostic code, which is most helpful for billing purposes and for organizing patients’ records. This book will be used by eye care professionals and students as a quick reference guide of the significant points most commonly encountered and important entities pertaining to the eyes.

Target Audience Useful for Eye Care Professionals, Ophthalmologists and Students as a Quick Reference Guide. DOODY'S BOOK REVIEW REVIEWER'S EXPERT OPINION Allison Ramsey Soneru, M.D.(Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine) Description This is an update of a book of pearls for the diagnosis, workup, and management of various ophthalmic conditions. The second edition was published in 2007.
Purpose The book's simple format highlights only the salient facts for each entity, making it most appropriate as a reference that does not attempt to comprehensively explain any particular disease. Audience This is a good resource for general ophthalmologists (or for ophthalmology residents and fellows) to use as a quick reference. Features The book lists disease entities in alphabetical order, and for each disease it provides, on the left-hand page, a definition, symptoms, signs, and any relevant investigations for the purposes of diagnosis. On the right-hand page, it describes standard treatment options, both pharmacological and nonpharmacological.
The layout is consistent, and the pictures are high quality. The complications and pearls on each entity are very helpful. Assessment As a guide to many common ophthalmic diseases, this book is similar to The Wills Eye Manual 6th edition, Gerstenblith and Rabinowitz (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2012), but it has more pictures and explores some diseases that are not included in Wills, such as AMPPE (acute multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy). It would be a good supplement to Wills for general ophthalmologists, but it overlaps with it quite a bit as well.
The alphabetical arrangement of the diseases and the layout (continuation of the diagnosis on the next left-hand page instead of on the subsequent page) make it slightly more difficult to use, but it does do a good job of standardizing the layout.
