Frcs (Tr & Orth):Mcqs And Clinical Cases Mcqs And Vivas From The Bone & Joint Journal(Formerly Jbjs)
The FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination in the UK comprises a written test composed of Multiple Choice Questions, a clinical component and four 30 minute orals. The clinical component is divided into cases that focus on the Upper and Lower limb. The orals, or vivas, are divided into four sections comprising Adult pathology, Children’s orthopaedics and Hands, Trauma and Basic science. Most other countries, including Australia, follow a similar system of examination wherein candidates are assessed on their ability to examine a patient in a clinical setting and then interpret a clinical case and present a logical management plan in the viva setting. The goal of this book is to focus specifically on the needs of trainees preparing for the exit exam in any part of the world and to cater to all the sections of the exam. It is laid out in a format which is helpful for revision. Chapter 1 includes the MCQs, written in the single best answer (SBA) format used in the exam, and Chapter 2 provides the answers. The following chapters cover Adult pathology, Trauma, Hands, Children’s orthopaedics and Basic science. For each of these themes there are separate chapters that include, firstly, clinical cases and, secondly, detailed model answers with references. Key Features FRCS (Tr & Orth): MCQs and Clinical Cases offers a comprehensive set of over 120 practice questions and answers for trainees preparing for the FRCS Trauma & Orthopaedics exam, and similar exams in the Middle East, India, Australia, Africa and elsewhere. Chapters provide material in both the MCa single best answer (SBA) and viva formats used in the exam. Featuring a wealth of practice questions and fully descriptive answers containing explanatory tables and references, this book is an essential revision tool designed to maximise chances of exam success, whether in the UK or internationally. • Content derived from the well-known 'Exam Corner' section of the leading international publication The Bone & Joint Journal (formerly known as JBJS British Volume), conveniently published together in one place for the first time • Viva questions organised by the themes used in the exam - Adult pathology, Trauma, Hands, Children's orthopaedics, Basic science - enable you to focus on areas of weakness • In-depth answers, with illustrations, help you consolidate knowledge and understand key concepts Target Audience Trainees preparing for Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) exams.
